The UW System Unveils First Flexible Degree Programs

The University of Wisconsin System has announced a groundbreaking new way for working adults to earn a college degree from the University of Wisconsin System, starting in the fall of 2013 with programs offered by UW-Milwaukee. The UW Flexible Option includes self-paced, competency-based degree and certificate programs that allow students to earn credits by demonstrating knowledge they acquired through prior coursework, military training, on-the-job training and other learning experiences.

"This is a new direction in American higher education, and Wisconsin is at the forefront," said UW System President Kevin P. Reilly. He and UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor Ray Cross spoke at a November 28, 2012, media conference at UW-Milwaukee.

The first Flexible Option programs include four degree programs and one certificate program. Details are provided in the news release.
