New Sustainable Management Degree Offered by UW Campuses

The world is changing rapidly. Individuals, corporations, and organizations must face the challenges of escalating energy costs, environmental damage, and global climate change.

The Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Management is a collaborative effort of UW-Extension and four University of Wisconsin campuses—UW-Parkside, UW-River Falls, UW-Stout, and UW-Superior—that provides the knowledge and skills students need to create profitable businesses, vibrant communities, and a healthy environment for Wisconsin, the United States, and the world.

UW-Extension just updated the Distance Learning Wisconsin (DLWIS) website, which brings information from over 1,700 distance learning courses offered through the University of Wisconsin institutions together in one place. The site, distancelearning.wisconsin.edu, not only provides a point of access to information about the distance education courses and programs offered by the University of Wisconsin Institutions, but it also has links and information about the admissions enrollment processes and financial aid processes, library services, and more.

The DLWIS site is linked to a searchable database allowing individuals to find programs based on subject, institution and type of instruction. Potential students benefit from having one source of information about distance learning courses and degree and certificate programs.

The DLWIS site is helpful to the UW Institutions because it matches potential students with courses, degree and certificate programs; filling the excess capacity in some current distance education programs; cultivating interest on the campuses in offering additional distance education programs; and providing an additional outlet for marketing UW distance education courses and programs.

DistanceLearning.Wisconsin is managed jointly by the UW-Extension’s Instructional Communications Systems, UW HELP, and UW Learning Innovations. Each campus of the University of Wisconsin System is represented on the site’s Advisory Committee to provide assistance and direction for the future development of the site.

UW-Platteville program fits schedule

"It was an outstanding program. It really fit into my schedule, working a full time job and raising two kids. It was nice to be able to do the schoolwork at my convenience, as opposed to taking off at specific times and going to a classroom."
Steve Madsen, UW-Platteville Graduate
